Teleen D. Cobbs

Teleen D. Cobbs, 95, of Newton, died Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Newton Healthcare. No services are scheduled. Teleen will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.

Teleen, the daughter of Quinnie Andrew and Cecil (Sloan) Hughes, was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1939. On Jan. 5, 1941, Teleen was united in marriage with William I. Cobbs in Newton. In 1952, they moved their family to California. While in California, she took classes at the Long Beach City College, worked at Fort McArthur Navy Shipyard and volunteered at the Concord Senior Center. Teleen enjoyed making afghans and slippers. In 1998, Teleen moved back to Newton.

Those left to honor Teleen’s memory are her three sons, James (Margaret) Cobbs of Newton, Harold Cobbs of California, and Barry (Ellie) Cobbs of Texas; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Rosemary Cobbs of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William in 1987; two sons, David (Andrea) Cobbs and Donald (Karen) Cobbs.
