Lola Brodersen

Lola Gladys (DePenning) Brodersen, the daughter of Arie and Elta (Rohrdanz) DePenning, was born May 25, 1915, in rural Galesburg. She attended rural schools in the Galesburg area and graduated from Newton High School in 1932. She was united in marriage to Byron Brodersen Sept. 10, 1935, at the home of her parents. Byron and Lola farmed in the Reasnor, Knoxville and Monroe areas. Lola worked in the kitchen at the Monroe Elementary School for several years. She was an avid reader and liked to do crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Monroe Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Eastern Star. Lola (DePenning) Brodersen passed away March 2, 2017, at the Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Byron in 1984; and three brothers-in-law, Robert (Bob) Olson, Larry Benton and Kenneth (Ken) Dieterich. Those left to honor Lola’s memory are her two sons, Carroll (Julie) Brodersen of Newton, and Robert (Bob) Brodersen of Spring Valley, Wis.; three grandchildren, Jill (Kent) Brown, Joel (Leanne) Brodersen and Susan Garro; nine great-grandchildren, Grant and Kara Brown, Bailey, Lauren and Trey Brodersen and Ben, Brody, Bert and Beth Garro; and one great-great-granddaughter, Madilinn Garro; two sisters, Eula Mae Dieterich and Marge Benton; her niece, Linda Boyd; and her nephews, David, Dean and Don Benton.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7 at the Monroe Methodist Church. Following the service the family will greet friends at a lunch at the church.
