Dorothea M. Prochaska-Hackathorn, 94, of Prairie City, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Mitchell Village Care Center. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3 at the Prairie City Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. The daughter of William Robert and Clara (Cordt) Thomas, Dorothea was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Garwin. On June 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Joe Prochaska in Tray, Kan. To this union two daughters were born, Avonell and Jolene. Joe passed away in 1987. She later was married to Clifford Hackathorn. Dorthea was a member of the Prairie City Church of the Brethren, the Lady’s Club and Country Western Bands.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Avonell Prochaska; step children, Gary (Linda) Hackathorn, Darrell (Pam) Hackathorn, Lori (Regi) Blumuyerer and Sharon (Dan) Wilson; a granddaughter, Jennifer Cattell; a sister, Margaret Ingledue; and a sister-in-law, Cleo Thomas. Preceding Dorothea in death were her parents; both husbands, Joe and Clifford; a daughter, Jolene Kay Cattell; a granddaughter, Jennifer Jolene Thomas Ayers; sisters, Velma Neideigh and Marjorie Osgood; and brothers, Bud Thomas, Art Thomas and Neil Thomas.
