Mr. Richard I. “Dick” Scott, 86, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Oak Tree Villas.

Dick was born April 24, 1930, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of John L. and Ethelene Blume Scott. He was married June 9, 1950, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Dorothy L. Oidtman, who preceded him in death Aug. 4, 1989.

Dick was a 1948 graduate of St. Peter High School. Following high school, he served his country in the Navy as a Seaman Apprentice. After completing his service, he enrolled in night school at the University of Missouri at Columbia, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1958.

He was employed with the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 36 years, working as a store manager and territory salesman at various locations in Missouri and Iowa. After retiring from Firestone, he was employed as a realtor with Century 21, McDowell Realty.
Dick was a member of St. Peter Church where he was a charter participant with the Perpetual Adoration at the church. He was a member of the Class of '48 Alumni Association and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Dan Coppin Assembly 573.

He enjoyed reading, playing cards and traveling with Clara, his longtime friend and classmate. He was happy when assisting others, whether fixing or repairing broken items or chauffeuring them to appointments. Most importantly, he cherished time visiting and talking with his friends and family.

Survivors include, one daughter, Susan M. Duchene and her husband Jim (favorite son-in-law) of Chanhassen, Minn.; one son, Robert L. Scott and his wife Carol of Jefferson City, Mo.; his longtime friend, Clara Bolden of Jefferson City, Mo,; one brother-in-law, Bob Paden of Quincy, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Susan Scott, Sandy Oidtman and Carol Crader and her husband Larry of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Lisa Duchene of White Bear Township, Minn., Sara Barthel of Big Lake, Minn., Kelly Randall and her husband Forrest of Chanhassen, Minn.; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Madison Barthel of Big Lake, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth Scott; and three brothers and one sister-in-law, Harold Scott, Edward Scott and his wife Bette, and William Scott; his grandson-in-law, Matt Barthel, passed away the same day as Dick from an automobile accident in Minnesota.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27 with a prayer service to be conducted at 3:15 p.m. Monday in the Freeman Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Reverend Simeon Etonu officiating. A graveside service and interment with military honors will be at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Vogelweid Special Learning Center or St. Peter Catholic Church.
