New Beginnings Chiropractic cuts ribbon on square Friday

At New Beginnings Chiropractic, doctor Kalyn Borts vows to promote health and wellness through unique chiropractic care for families in the community.

Borts’ practice officially opened its doors on Newton’s square Friday following a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday where friends and family of Borts and the Chamber of Commerce celebrated.

Borts, of Colfax, said Jasper County and Newton has always felt like home, so it wasn’t a surprise when she decided to plant her business’ roots in the heart of Newton.

“I looked at other places and for some reason I kept being drawn back home. I wanted to be in a community that basically I was raised in and it just felt like home and it was good to get back in this community and be here,” Borts said.

Borts said her career journey became clear after she began suffering from severe lower back pain in grade school.

“I have been suffering with lower back pain since I was in about fifth grade due to an injury on a trampoline, and it wasn’t until high school that I went to a chiropractor after exhausting all other medical care — X-rays, MRIs, everything,” Borts said. “After my first visit to a chiropractor I was pain free for the first time in years and that’s when I decided what I wanted to do with my life.”

Borts attended Northwest Missouri State University where she received a bachelor’s of science studying bio psychology. Borts received her chiropractic degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport.

“It was there that I decided that I really loved working with children and pregnant women — as well as the whole family,” Borts said. “I’m working on my certification in pediatrics and pregnancy right now.”

Borts said her practice offers an initial exam with the focus being on the nervous system.

“Lower back pain is what people mainly come in for, as well as headaches,” Borts said. “A lot of people may wonder why does a child need to go to a chiropractor, but I’m concerned about the function of the nervous system — kids with cholic, constipation, ear infections, these have all been shown to be helped with chiropractic, and so far for me, it’s making sure the nervous system is working properly.”

Borts said the future of her practice revolves around helping families of Jasper County stay healthy.

“I want to promote overall health and wellness and get our kids healthy, parents healthy and ensure healthy deliveries for mothers,” Borts said. “I just want people to be happy and healthy.”

Borts thanked her friends and family for their support during the hard times of chiropractic school and while setting up the business.

“My parents have been supporters of me since the beginning, and my husband was there for me during all the hard times in chiropractic school and in setting up the business,” Borts said “It’s been a really big family thing for us and they have wished a lot of hope and success.”

Borts’ grand opening took place Friday with refreshments, coloring and a raffle. New Beginnings Chiropractic is located at 207 First Avenue West. To make an appointment, call 641-787-0010.
