Rose Ann Cranston, age 85 of Newton, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A funeral service will be at noon Saturday, Feb. 25 at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery in Mystic. Memorials may be directed to the Church and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of George W. and Anna (Aitken) Armstrong, Rose Ann was born May 12, 1931, in Centerville. She graduated from Mystic High School. On July 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert Gene Cranston. Rose Ann worked in sales at Leonard’s Women’s Wear in Newton, Younkers and Walmart in Newton, retiring at the age of 80. Rose Ann enjoyed playing Bridge and belonged to several Bridge clubs. She also enjoyed traveling, bird watching and being with her family.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Rob (Mary) Cranston of Normal, Ill., and Susan (Tom) Weeks of Newton; grandchildren, Tom (Elmira) Weeks of Los Angeles, Calif., Steve (Jen) Weeks of Newton, Mark Cranston of Louisville, Ky., Rick (Ina) Cranston of Mariehamn, Finlandand, Alla Smothers of Waukee; great-granddaughters, Anna, Caroline and Ebba; two siblings, Robert Armstrong of Loves Park, Ill., and Mary Ellen Houser of Moulton. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and five brothers and sisters, George, Arthur, Kenneth, Vivian and Shirley.
