Newton Police Department

• Brandon H. Cornelison, 35, of Newton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 3:45 a.m. Sunday after police found Cornelison behind the wheel of a vehicle at Woodland Park after hours. Next to Cornelison was a glass pipe used for smoking meth on the front passenger seat. Cornelison was confused and didn’t know where he was. Cornelison was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Joshua W. Schippers, 37, of Des Moines, was charged with violation of no contact order at 9:15 p.m. Sunday when police were dispatched to a residence at East 12th Street North. Police located Schippers in the area. He told police he intentionally violated the no contact order because he was homeless. Schippers was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Deja R. Harris, 19, of Newton, Anissa J. Smith, 18, of Newton, Jaidenn R. Sheridan-Britcher, 19, of Kellogg, Cragar A. Klingensmith, 19, of Newton, Hunter L. Versteegh, 18, of Newton, and Alex W. Bentley, 18, of Newton, were all cited with possession of alcohol by person underage at 1 a.m. Saturday at 900 W. Fourth St. S.

• Latasha R. Harris-Pearson, 22, of Newton, was charged with false report of a 911 call at 4:50 a.m. Feb. 12 when police were called to America’s Best Value Inn in reference to a 911 call regarding an assault with injuries. The victim identified herself as Harris-Pearson and called multiple times within 24 hours of the incident. Harris-Pearson gave police specific information during the phone call regarding an assault. It was discovered Harris-Pearson provided no factual information regarding the alleged emergency situation to 911. Also, the alleged incident location was falsified as the hotel room in question is currently under renovation and not capable of being rented. According to 911 communications dispatchers, Harris-Pearson was located at an unknown address on Fleur Drive in Des Moines when she made the 911 call.

• Clint T. Nelson, 37, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 6 p.m. Sunday after police were called to Walmart in reference to theft and trespass of a male. Police were told Nelson had been inside the store and had been formally trespassed from the store. While in the store Nelson was seen carrying a 24-pack of Budweiser beer and a tool set and was attempting to leave without paying. Walmart employees requested a receipt for the items and Nelson refused and fled. Nelson was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Clint T. Nelson, 37, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 3:38 pm. Monday after officers were dispatched to Git N Go in reference to a theft. The cashier of the store witnessed a man wearing a camouflage hat and a coat take two 12-packs of Budweiser and Red Bull and then flee from the store on a blue bike. Officers were in the area and located Nelson who matched the suspect’s description riding a blue bike. Nelson was in possession of two packs of Budweiser and a Red Bull, the items total cost was $31.97.

• Myles P. Bartlett, 24, of Newton, was cited with use of electronic communication device and failure to maintain control at 4:44 a.m. Jan. 22. Bartlett was charged with operating while under the influence after test results were received Feb. 13. Bartlett was driving north on East 19th Street North and he was allegedly distracted by his phone. Bartlett’s vehicle crossed the center line into the opposing lane, veering into another vehicle, which was parked and unattended in the roadway. Barlett continued into the yard, striking another parked vehicle, which was then pushed into another parked vehicle. Bartlett then struck a house and garage causing damage. No injuries were reported. Barlett told police he was distracted by his phone and had been drinking. Barlett was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail on pending suspicion of operating while intoxicated. Barlett was arrested for the OWI charge Feb. 13.
