Newton sends students to regional spelling bee contest

The Knights of Columbus held its regional spelling bee Feb. 19 in Pella. There were students from Newton, Pella and Fort Madison. In the fourth grade event, Tavian Williams, of Newton finished in second place. In the fifth grade event, Haylie Ryan, of Newton finished in second place. In the sixth grade event, Owen Muhs, of Newton, finished in first place and Leo Friedman, of Newton, finished in second. All four of these Newton students will advance to the State Knights of Columbus spelling bee finals at 2 p.m. March 5 at St. Cecelia Church in Ames. (Submitted Photo)
