Tigerhawk boys rout Southeast Warren

LIBERTY CENTER — Juniors Jarod Nichols and Reegan Van Dyke both recorded double-doubles, and the Colfax-Mingo boys basketball team used a big first quarter to grab an early lead and then pulled away even further with a strong final frame.

Nichols scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Van Dyke added 12 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks as the Tigerhawks ended a two-game losing streak with a 56-35 road victory against Southeast Warren.

The Warhawks, who were coached by current Tigerhawk head coach Nick Noring last season, has now lost 13 straight games.

Colfax-Mingo (9-11) played its third straight game without guard Zarek Hill, who has been suspended the rest of the season for violation of team rules.

Freshman Brady Berkey added 10 points and three assists, while junior Jonathan Jacobs chipped in seven points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds in the win. Sophomore Holister Koenig scored eight points.

Colfax-Mingo led Southeast Warren (3-18) led 15-7 after one quarter and took a 25-14 lead into halftime. The Tigerhawks pulled away in the fourth with a 16-7 advantage.

The Tigerhawks play at Tri-County at 7 p.m. Friday in the South Iowa Cedar League cross-over game.
