• Tha Bawi, 35, of Marshalltown, was charged with operating while under the influence and cited with vehicle entering and failing to stop or yield at intersection at 4:31 p.m. Dec. 26 in the 1100 block of First Avenue West.

Bawi was traveling north on West 11th Street North as another vehicle was travelling west on First Avenue West. Bawi allegedly failed to yield at a stop sign and went through the intersection. Both vehicles collided and a telephone pole was damaged. Bawi submitted to a urine test, which came back Jan. 18 with an alcohol concentration of .158 from the sample. Bawi was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Aaron D. Vandekrol, 42, of Mason City, was charged with third-degree attempted burglary and public intoxication at 2:12 a.m. Feb. 5.

Police were called to Skiff Medical Center parking lot in reference to a man attempting to gain entry to vehicles. Police found a man with a car door handle in his hand. The man was identified as Vandekrol. He told police he was attempting to get into his vehicle. The vehicle he was attempting to get into didn’t belong to him. Vandekrol was released and issued a citation to appear in court.

• Logan Owens, 18, of Newton, was charged with second-degree burglary at 3:57 a.m. Feb. 5 after police were called to a residence on East Seventh Street North in reference to a burglary in progress. The burglary was being committed by two people who were known to the residents of the home. Owens and a juvenile female left the residence before officer arrived. An Xbox 360 was found to be missing from a bedroom. Owens told police he did steal the Xbox, which was recovered and returned to the owner. Owens was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
