Francis R. Moore

Feb. 5, 2017

Francis R. Moore was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Newton. He graduated from the Newton Senior High School in 1941. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, and served on the USS Oakland in World War II.

Francis married Marlys Ann Harr in 1948, in Davenport and was happily married for 60 years. They were blessed with three children, Marsha Kaye, Mary Ann and Mark Allen.

Francis worked and retired from Maytag after 37 years. Francis and his wife spent 60+ wonderful years sharing their love of family get-togethers, picnics, potlucks with neighbors and card playing. Dad’s passion was dancing at the MOOSE or in Malcolm on weekends. There wasn’t a weekend you couldn’t find them dancing someplace or sharing their other love of estate or yard sales finding “treasures” to fill their home with “stuff” they cherished. Francis was a quiet man but lent a hand to anyone in need and was a devoted husband to his wife who passed in 2008.

He is survived by his three children, Marsha (Marvin) Moskwa, Mary Ann (Henry) Allspach and Mark (Sherry) Moore; sisters, Darlene Martinez of Albuquerque and Mozelle Stech of Hampton; four grandchildren, Craig, Mike, Jeremy and Chris; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials may be sent to the Iowa Veterans Home, 1301 Summit St., Marshalltown, IA 50158 in Francis’ name.
