MONROE — Just six pins separated Newton High’s girls from Knoxville in Saturday’s bowling dual on the alleys at Mustang Lanes in Monroe. Newton’s boys trailed host Knoxville by 115 pins following the individual games.

Knoxville’s girls extended their lead during the Baker Games round. Newton’s boys narrowed the gap but only by about half.

“We had a couple of tough losses today. We kept it close, but the pins didn’t fall our way,” Newton head coach Seth Banwell said. “The girls lost by 53 and the boys lost by 56.”

Knoxville’s girls defeated the Cardinal girls, 2,126-2,073, and the Cardinal boys lost to the Panther boys, 2,518-2,462.

“We made some great shots into the pocket and left solid 10 pins,” Banwell said. “The lucky pin action was definitely on Knoxville’s side. We could have easily walked away with wins for both teams. I’m looking forward to seeing Knoxville again Saturday.”
