Lynnville-Sully boys thump Iowa Valley

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s boys clinched at least a share of the 2017 South Iowa Cedar League championship at home Tuesday. The Class 1A sixth-ranked Hawks dominated visiting Iowa Valley, 84-18.

The Hawks improved to 15-1 in SICL play with one regular-season game remaining — a home game Tuesday against HLV. Lynnville-Sully is 18-1 overall. The SICL cross-over games are Feb. 10 but are non-conference.

“The guys came out and did what they needed to do,” Lynnville-Sully head coach Nick Harthoorn said. “We moved the ball offensively and took good shots. Everyone hustled on defense and contributed on offense as well.”

Lynnville-Sully led 25-5 after one quarter and had a commanding 52-10 halftime lead. The Hawks shot 64 percent, 37-of-58, from the field while holding the Tigers to 20 percent, 7-of-35, from the field.

Defensively, the Hawks helped create 28 turnovers by the Tigers. Lynnville-Sully made 17 steals and owned a 31-14 rebounding edge.

Brevin Hansen led the Hawks with 15 points an four assists. Jesse Van Wyk tossed in 14 points and made seven steals. Corey McCoy scored 13 points, and Tanner Foster had 11 points.

Scoring six points each were Tyler Van Zante, Ryan Hofer and Rylan James. Kemper Lukehart had five points and Tyson Vander Linden had four points. Scoring two points each were Drake Ehresman and Gage Vander Leest.

Hofer claimed five rebounds and James had four rebounds. Lukehart and Vander Linder had four assists apiece.

Gabe Ritter had six points for Iowa Valley. Josh Konicek added five points.
