Blues Under the Blue Roof begins Monday with Aaron Earl Short

Blues Under the Blue Roof is back. A new musical performance will be held every Monday night during the month of February. All performances begin at 6:30 p.m., are free and open to the public. Aaron Earl Short of the Eastside Brothers and The High Crest will begin the concert series on Monday. The Blues Under the Blue Roof concert series is made possible by the South Skunk Blues Society and the Newton Public Library Foundation. All ages welcome.

Tax Forms at the Library

Free tax forms are now available at the Newton Public Library. Paper forms and instruction books are available for the Federal 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ tax forms. Public computers and printers are also available for those who prefer to file online.

Read to a Certified
Therapy Dog

3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays — The library will have a certified therapy dog in the Children’s Department to listen to children read.  This friendly golden retriever is certified with Therapy Dogs International, and loves children. Volunteer Cynthia Healy and her dog will be at the puzzle table area in the library to give your child a chance to practice reading aloud. No appointment necessary, just stop by and take your turn reading aloud for a few minutes. With questions, call youth services librarian, Phyllis Peter at 641-792-4108.

Valentine’s Day Storytime

10:30 a.m. Thursday — Join parents as teachers and our youth services librarian for a special Valentine’s Day themed storytime. This parent-child activity time will include crafts, treats and songs.

Adult Coloring

6 p.m. Thursday — Relax and unwind with a coloring book. All materials provided, adults only.

Beauty and the Beast
Storytime

6 p.m. Feb. 16 — Meet Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” and enjoy stories, cupcakes and crafts at this princess themed event. Attendees are invited to dress as their favorite princess. Call 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 3 and older

Meet the Author: K.C. Wren

6 p.m. Feb. 23 — Newton author, K.C. Wren, discusses her book, “The Dancing Winds,” and her experience writing and publishing her first novel. Fans of “The Hobbit” won’t want to miss this J.R.R. Tolkien inspired series.
