Evelyn M. Davis

Evelyn Marie Davis, 90, passed from this earth Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 with her daughter Linda by her side at Newton Village in Newton.

She was born March 24, 1926 to Albert and Inez Sears. She was married to Loran Briggs in 1946 and had six children. Loran and five babies passed away. She then married Verne Davis in 1953.

Evelyn would say she was a homemaker but, many people know her as “the mint lady” at Burger King, for 11 years. She also worked at McDonalds and Hardee’s. She was involved for many years with TOPS, Ladies Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women. She was a long time member of more than 40 years at St. Luke United Methodist Church.

She was a loving mother to her daughter Linda Walker (Charles Walker) and a devoted grandmother to her three grandchildren: Michelle Walker-O’Brien (Michael O’Brien), Shawn Walker and Cory Walker and to her four great-grandchildren: Kleo Walker-O’Brien, Madeline and William Walker and Aidan Walker.

Funeral services for Evelyn will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday Feb. 2 at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton. A time of visitation with the family will be held Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be designated in Evelyn’s name to St. Luke United Methodist Church and may be left at the church or at Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
