Cardinal JV wrestlers get mat time at DCG tourney

GRIMES — Newton High’s junior varsity wrestlers competed in 13 of the 38 brackets of the Dallas Center-Grimes Junior Varsity Tournament on Monday. Wrestlers from 14 teams were divided by weight into brackets for three-rounds of action.

Jeremiah Johnson, Austin Rombrg and Blayden Rhone won their respective brackets. Noah Cook, Damir Gumera, Tristan Rethmeier, Gabe Hoen, Gage Linahon and Caydin Harper each were second in their brackets.

Taking third in brackets were Aren Sorensen, Skyler Tool and Max Kliegl. Zane Kohlmeyer was fourth in his bracket.

The junior varsity joins the Cardinal varsity in a double dual with Des Moines Lincoln and host Ames at 5:30 p.m Tuesday.
