CMB cagers sweep Saydel

DES MOINES — Sophomore Will Clapper collected a double-double, freshman Cole Damman scored a career-high 17 points and the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter boys basketball team snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 53-48 road victory during Heart of Iowa Conference action on Friday.

The Raiders led by five after one quarter but only led by one at halftime and entered the fourth quarter in a 40-all tie.

Clapper scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Damman added three assists to his 17 points and junior Travis Lindemoen scored 11 points and dished out five assists.

Senior Hunter McWhirter grabbed eight rebounds before fouling out, and junior Braydon Aker pulled down five boards.

CMB (3-13 overall, 2-12 in the HOIC) made 18-of-44 from the floor and buried 9-of-24 from long range. From the free-throw line, CMB hit 8-of-16.

Damman connected on 5-of-10 from 3-point range and Lindemoen was 2-for-2.

The Raiders completed the season sweep of the Eagles, who fell to 0-13 overall and 0-10 in the HOIC.

GIRLS

CMB 37, Saydel 24

The Raider girls pulled their overall record to .500 on the season. CMB led 13-4 after one quarter and held a 20-6 advantage at halftime before winning by 13 points. 37-24, on the road during HOIC play Friday.

Senior Kathleen Baldwin scored 10 points, senior Mikayla Eslinger grabbed 12 rebounds and junior Brianda Bane scored six points and pulled down seven boards.

Junior Sailor Hinegardner scored five points and grabbed four boards, freshman Mikayla Hogue scored four points and delivered four assists and senior Emily Coughenour collected six rebounds and dished out three assists.

CMB (9-9 overall) is now 7-6 in the HOIC. Saydel (4-10) dropped to 2-9 in conference play.

Both Raider varsity teams play in a HOIC make-up doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. Monday at Nevada.

CMB plays in another conference doubleheader at 6 p.m. Tuesday at North Polk.
