LEGOs at the Library returns, author event on tap for Monday

LEGOs at the Library

1 to 3 p.m. Monday — Children in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to a LEGO afternoon at the library. All LEGOs are provided, please do not bring your own. Children age 10 and under should have an adult guardian or parent in the building with them. For more information, contact Youth Services Librarian, Phyllis Peter at 641-792-4108.

Meet the Author

6 p.m. Monday — "Beautiful Gift: How I Found my Son in the Afterlife" is a mother's story of how she survived the wrenching loss of her son and then found him again in the afterlife. Local author, Lesa Kay Smith, will discuss her book and the experience of writing and publishing this true story.

Blues Under the Blue Roof

Blues Under the Blue Roof is back. A new musical performance will be held every Monday night during the month of February. All performances begin at 6:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Aaron Earl Short of the Eastside Brothers and The High Crest will begin the concert series on Feb. 6. The Blues Under the Blue Roof concert series is made possible by the South Skunk Blues Society and the Newton Public Library Foundation. All ages welcome.

Valentine’s Day Storytime

10:30 a.m Feb. 9 — Join parents as teachers and our Youth Services Librarian for a special Valentine’s Day themed storytime. This parent-child activity time will include crafts, treats and songs.

Adult Coloring

6 p.m. Feb. 9 — Relax and unwind with a coloring book. All materials provided, adults only.

Read to a Certified Therapy Dog

3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays — The library will have a certified therapy dog in the Children’s Department to listen to children read. This friendly golden retriever is certified with Therapy Dogs International, and loves children. Volunteer Cynthia Healy and her dog will be at the puzzle table area in the library to give your child a chance to practice reading aloud.  No appointment necessary, just stop by and take your turn reading aloud for a few minutes.  With questions, call Youth Services Librarian, Phyllis Peter at 641-792-4108.
