William Ken Wisgerhof

William Ken Wisgerhof, the son of W. Glenn and Tenny (Kolfscholten) Wisgerhof, was born April 19, 1939, in Newton. Ken graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1957. He then went on the get his degree in business and banking from Colorado College. Ken served his country in the United States Army. He was partner and owner of the Wisgerhof Real Estate and Insurance Company for many years.

On Feb. 22, 1991, Ken was united in marriage with Barb Carpenter in Newton. Ken was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting and going to auctions. Ken was a member of the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton, and the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed his time and past involvement with the Newton Rotary, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.

Ken died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at his home in Newton. He was 77 years old. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Kay Wisgerhof.

Those left to honor Ken’s memory include his wife, Barb of Newton; his son, Scott (Melinda) Wisgerhof of White Bear Township, Minn.; his daughter, Heather (Mike) Saunders of North Liberty; his step-son, Jason Elliott of Newton; his step-daughters, Sarah Miller and Lindsey Slycord of Newton; his grandchildren, Reed Wisgerhof, Rory Wisgerhof, Rachael Saunders and Ella Saunders; his nine step-grandchildren; and his brother, Kirk Wisgerhof.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. The family will greet friends following the service during lunch at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Community Heights Alliance Church or the Newton Izaak Walton League and may be left at the church or at Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
