Roland-Story sweeps CMB

BAXTER — A poor shooting performance doomed the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter girls basketball team Thursday during a Heart of Iowa Conference contest against Roland-Story.

The Raiders shot 23 percent from the floor and got outscored 13-5 in the final quarter during a 42-30 loss to the Norse.

CMB trailed 18-11 after one quarter but rallied to trim the deficit to one at halftime.

The Raiders (7-7 overall, 5-4 in the HOIC) were outscored 19-8 in the second half.

Junior Brianda Bane had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the Raiders in the loss, while senior Emily Coughenour added six points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior Kathleen Baldwin chipped in three points, five boards and three assists.

CMB made 9-of-39 from the floor and connected on 5-of-22 from long range. Bane was 3-of-11 from 3-point range.

The Norse girls moved ahead of CMB in the HOIC standings after the win, improving to 9-5 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

BOYS

Roland-Story 67, CMB 51

Sophomore Will Clapper finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, but a slow start plagued the Raider boys in a loss to rival Roland-Story.

The Norse (6-8, 4-6) led 19-10 after one quarter and took a 36-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.

CMB (2-10, 1-7) played even with its visitors in the second half, but the first-half margin was too much to overcome.

Senior Hunter McWhirter tallied 12 points and five rebounds, junior Travis Lindemoen chipped in 10 points and four rebounds and sophomore Ian Thomson scored nine points.

The Raiders made 18-of-54 from the floor and were just 7-of-29 from 3-point range.

The Raiders play Prairie City-Monroe in another conference doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. Friday in Monroe.
