140 welcome bags, resource guide distributed

In the last six months, Jasper County Maternal and Child Health Task Force have given out more than 140 Welcome Bags and a community resource guide with child injury prevention and educational resources.

It is offering a free welcome bag and resource guide to anyone that has a baby in Jasper County. Those who deliver at Skiff or are involved in Parent as Teacher or the Pregnancy Center of Central Iowa will already get a bag and guide.

“We are trying to reach all families of new babies born in Jasper County. If they deliver at a hospital outside of Newton, we have a collaborative gift for these families to show our support and commitment to the best start for babies. Our goal is to link families with the resources that are available with numerous agencies in Jasper County and provide education,” Becky Pryor, RN, Administrator of Jasper County Health Department, said.

Jasper County has numerous community groups and individuals that contributed items to the “Welcome Bags” including Jasper County Health Department, Skiff Medical Center, Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA, JCCPCA (Parents as Teachers), EFR, Pregnancy Center of Central Iowa, Newton Public Library, Central Iowa Community Services cards, Peck Child Development Center, Early Childhood Iowa State, Marion County MCH, The Dental Practice, Beulah Starr and the Common Threads.
