Consistency has come to the Newton High boys’ varsity bowling team. The Cardinal boys built a 600-pin advantage over visiting Bondurant-Farrar by the end of the individual games Saturday on their home alleys at Cardinal Lanes.

Newton’s boys powered past the Blue Jays, 2,672-1,795 for their third dual win in a row. Bondurant-Farrar’s girls defeated the Cardinal girls, 2,054-1,961, on Saturday.

“The varsity boys’ team was really pumped up after its dominating win over Bondurant-Farrar, winning by 877 pins,” Newton head coach Seth Banwell said. “The boys have remained consistent from week to week and almost bowled another incredible team score more than 2,700.”

Reece Thurmond produced games of 211 and 201 to lead the Cardinal boys with a 412 series. Reid Miller was close behind with games of 204 and 190 for a 394. Shaiden Simmons bowled a 333 (158-175) and Sam Supino pocketed a 332 (164-168).

Alex Frymoyer had a 320 (131-189) and Austin Johansen finished at 311 (132-179). Newton was up 1,791-1,186 going into the Baker Games round and kept its advantage with a 881-609 margin. Newton’s Baker Games scores were 142-230-169-160-180.

“I’m really pleased with the boys and how much progress they are making in practice. It’s a lot of fun to see them crush the pins shot after shot,” Banwell said.

Newton’s varsity girls only trailed Bondurant-Farrar by 77 pins, 1,423-1,346, going into the Baker Games round. The Cardinals just couldn’t catch up.

“Although the varsity girls’ team struggled against Bondurant-Farrar, Kaytie Hughes and Alicia Miller both bowled 284 series,” Banwell said. “The girls kept it close but couldn’t over come the high scores of Elizabeth Stanley from Boudurant-Farrar who averaged 192 per game.”

Hughes had games of 140 and 144 and Miller rolled a 138 and 146 for their team-leading 284 individual series. Taylor Johnson finished with a 276 on games of 139 and 137. Lizzy Coyle had a 252 (96-156).
