Mustang boys down Roland-Story

STORY CITY — Junior Jackson Thomas scored 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists and senior Mark Bruxvoort chipped in 12 points and three rebounds as the Prairie City-Monroe boys basketball team won their second straight game inside the Heart of Iowa Conference.

The Mustangs (6-3 overall, 6-2 in the HOIC) led by nine at halftime and played almost even with the host Norse in the second half during a 50-42 victory.

Sophomore Andrew Van Ryswyk scored seven points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and freshman Derek Brown scored seven points and had four rebounds.

Junior Elijah Sperfslage scored six points and sophomore Reed Worth added five points, four assists and three rebounds in the win.

Roland-Story lost its fifth straight game and dropped to 5-8 overall and 2-5 in the HOIC.

The Mustangs play Saydel at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Des Moines.

Pella 85, PCM 52

PELLA — Ryan VanWyk scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Class 3A No. 3 Pella blew out the Mustangs in a non-conference home game on Saturday.

The Dutch made 36-of-70 from the floor, connected on nine 3-pointers and dominated the boards, 48-20, in improving to 10-1 on the season.

Van Ryswyk made five 3-pointers and scored 17 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead PCM.

Sperfslage added 13 points, Bruxvoort dished out six assists and Brown scored eight points and grabbed four boards.

Thomas scored seven points.

The Mustangs fell to 6-4 on the season.
