Harry Douglas “Doug” DeMeyer, 68, of Newton, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. As per Doug’s wishes he has been cremated and there are no services scheduled. Memorials in Doug’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: DeMeyer Family on the envelope.

Doug, the son of Harry and Margaret Ruth Johnson DeMeyer, was born Feb. 20, 1948, in Newton. He was a graduate of Newton High School in 1966. Doug served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

On Oct. 25, 1986, Doug was united in marriage with Denise Ann Lacina in Newton. He worked for the Maytag Company in Newton for 20 years; he was a fork lift operator when he retired in 2010. He attended Central College in Pella, and then graduated from DMACC – Electrical Construction Trade program. He was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. Doug loved his family. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, cowboy gun shooting, going to Jimmy Buffett concerts, Bushcrafters, playing cards, coffee time with friends. He was a good soul and he found comfort in the book of Philippians in the Bible.

Those left to honor Doug’s memory are his wife, Denise Lacina of Newton; two sons, Philip (Cindi) DeMeyer of Des Moines and Steven DeMeyer of Newton; his three grandchildren, Jack, Bryan and Madelline; mother, Ruth DeMeyer of Keller, Texas; his three brothers, Mike (Connie) DeMeyer of Prairie City, Randy (Deanne) DeMeyer of Grapevine, Texas and Chuck DeMeyer of Mulvane, Kan.; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry DeMeyer in 2006; and son, Jonathan D. “Jon” DeMeyer in 2002.
