A three vehicle collision led to one fatality and one driver injured after one vehicle reportedly crossed the shoulder and collided with a trailer at 2 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 80 west.
Michael Burdell, 64, of West Chester, Ill., was driving a 2007 Dodge caravan westbound on I-80 near mile marker 176, when he crossed over into the shoulder area and struck a 2014 Chevy Silverado.
The driver of the Chevy, Austin McFadden, 21, of Mingo, then collided with the rear of a trailer. The driver of the 2016 trailer was James Kunsman, 53, of Downers Grove, Ill. Burdell crossed over both lanes of traffic, spun around and struck a cable barrier.
Burdell was pronounced dead at the scene.
McFadden was treated for injuries at the scene and released.
