Virginia Grace Williams

Virginia Grace Williams, 91, of Newton, passed from this life Dec. 5, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Virginia was born near Ogden,  to John Richard and Charlotte (Bagnall) Williams Feb. 20, 1925.

She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1944, and then attended hairdressing and cosmetology school. Upon graduation she opened Newton Beauty Shop and owned and operated it for more than 58 years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, coin collecting and was a member as well as the past president of the Newton Soroptimist Club, a member of the Peace Maker’s Quilt Club and a member of the Newton First Baptist Church for many years.

She was a loving aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Virginia is survived by her nephews, Richard L (and Lana L.) Williams in Bend, Ore., and Robert Williams of Farr West, Utah; numerous great nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Leona Woodruff; and her brothers, Cecil Williams and Ray Williams.

A remembrance and celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
