The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office conducted tobacco compliance checks at 18 different retailers throughout Jasper County Dec. 11. This compliance operation was done in partnership with the Alcoholic Beverages Division of the State of Iowa.
Four retail stores failed their compliance check, with the store clerk receiving a citation in the amount of $200. Non-compliance was determined when the clerk sold tobacco products to an individual under the age of 18.
The following stores were found to be non-compliant: Izaak Walton League, 889 Highway F-36 W. in Newton, Colfax Food Mart, 1405 N. Walnut St. in Colfax, Kum & Go, 1200 N. Walnut St. in Colfax and Shugars Super Valu, 28 E. Howard St. in Colfax. Managers of each retail location were contacted and made aware of the employee’s sale of tobacco products to an underage individual.
