Colfax-Mingo boys blitz English Valleys

NORTH ENGLISH — Colfax-Mingo junior Jarod Nichols appears to completely back from an early-season ankle injury.

For the second straight game, Nichols poured in 26 points and added 17 rebounds, four blocks and three assists during the Tigerhawks’ 63-21 road win over English Valleys.

It was the second straight win for the Tigerhawks, which improved to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in South Iowa Cedar League play.

Freshman Brady Berkey had 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals, while junior Reegan Van Dyke chipped in six points and 14 rebounds. Junior Jonathan Jacobs added four points, six assists, four steals and four rebounds.

English Valleys fell to 1-9 overall and 1-7 in the SICL.

Another slow start doomed the Tigerhawk girls on the road Thursday night.

English Valleys led 36-21 at halftime and had as big as a 23-point advantage in the third quarter before Colfax-Mingo (2-7, 2-5) rallied with a big fourth quarter. The Tigerhawks fell short despite senior Amy Russell’s 12 points and junior Ries Wilson’s eight points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Mackensie Brown added 10 points, while senior Dakota Hostetter chipped in seven points. The Tigerhawks made 14-of-25 from the free-throw line.

Audrey Grove led English Valleys (3-6, 3-5) with 25 points. She came into the game averaging around 12 per night.
