Newton Police Department
• Jack D. Crandell, 54, of Newton, was cited with failure to maintain control after a two-2car collision at 7:54 a.m. Dec. 19. Crandell was driving east on South Sixth Avenue West. Another vehicle was parked legally on the south side of the 700 block of South Sixth Avenue West when Crandell collided with the parked vehicle. No one was inside of the parked vehicle at the time of the collision. Crandell told police that he lost sight of the road while handling a glass object in the car. Crandell was issued a citation.
• Kate L. Tremmel, 30, of Newton, was arrested at 1:25 p.m. Dec. 20 at the adult probation office on a Hamilton County warrant for probation violation. Tremmel was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Nicholas W. Kohlberg, 36, of Cody, Wyo., is charged with carrying weapons while intoxicated and operating while under the influence, after police were called at 9:59 p.m. Dec. 15 to 1635 S. 12th Ave. W. in reference to a suspicious man believed to be intoxicated. Police found Kohlberg in a parking lot, inside of a vehicle that was running and open beer cans on the passenger floorboard. Kohlberg appeared to have bloodshot, watery eyes and failed a sobriety test. During Kohlberg’s arrest, he told police there was a loaded firearm in the driver’s door storage compartment. Police found a Smith and Wesson SD40VE with a loaded magazine and round in the chamber. Kohlberg was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Angelica M. Garza, 21, of Newton, was cited for moving a vehicle backward on a highway, after a two-car collision at 11:27 a.m. Tuesday. Garza was backing out of a driveway at 614 W. Second St. S. and struck a vehicle driving north in the 600 block of West Second Street South. Garza was issued a citation.
