David M. Putz, 42, and Carrie A. Carre, 42, both of Newton, are charged with controlled substance violation, gathering where marijuana is used and possession of drug paraphernalia, after police were called at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday to 5 Bungalow Court in reference to an emergency juvenile removal. Police were contacted by DHS. The juvenile in the home had allegedly smoked a bowl of marijuana. Putz and Carre both live at the residence. Carre went into a bedroom and came back with a silver metal pipe, 30.1 grams of marijuana packaged in bags, a scale and drug paraphernalia. Police also located 5.2 grams of methamphetamine in six different plastic bags. Putz and Carre were both arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jimmy R. James, 31, of Newton, is charged with fifth-degree theft, after police were called at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a shoplifter at Hy-Vee. James was seen concealing a bottle of Jagermeister from the store shelf inside his coat. Jagermeister was $20.37. James was released in issued a citation to appear in court.

• Hannah L. Robbins, 21, of Newton, is charged with fifth-degree theft, after police were called at 12:22 p.m. Thursday to Hy-Vee in reference to a shoplifter. Robbins was seen emptying the contents of a detergent bottle into the empty space in a bottle, then proceeded to purchase the larger bottle, leaving the smaller empty bottle on the shelf. Robbins was released and issued a citation to appear in court.
