Newton Police Department

• Lazeke Southward, 27, of West Des Moines, is charged with interference with official acts after police responded to a call at 10:40 p.m. Saturday in reference to a vehicle parked on Interstate 80 east, mile marker 166. The vehicle was parked on the roadway. Police saw Southward walking on the side of the roadway and asked him to come to the patrol car. Southward continued walking and refused to stop. Police grabbed Southward and placed him on the ground. Southward was arrested and cited for stopping on a paved highway and registration violation.

• Jeffrey J. Stanton, 20, of Newton, is cited with failure to maintain control after a two vehicle collision at 12:28 p.m. Saturday. Stanton was driving north on West 12th Street in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. As Stanton and another vehicle approached a curve, Stanton slid across the centerline and into the path of a 2010 Chevy Traverse. The roadway was covered with fresh snow and was very slick. The other driver, Kayla L. McNeeley, 28, of Newton, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

• Kendi K. McCollum, 19, of Newton, is charged with assault causing bodily injury after an incident at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 at a residence in Newton. McCollum allegedly confronted the victim about things she said about McCollum’s brother. The victim told police McCollum struck her about the head several times, causing swelling. McCollum was issued a citation.
