PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg couple has been killed in a crash involving a semitrailer truck in northeastern Iowa. Dennis Bartels, 75, and 73-year-old Sharon Bartels were killed when their van pulled out in front of the semi on Iowa Highway 14, just north of Parkersburg. The Iowa State Patrol says the semi hit the van that Dennis Bartels was driving. A 51-year-old Parkersburg man driving the semi was not injured.
A patrol reports says that Bartels’ van had been stopped on the southbound shoulder of Highway 14 as they got items from a mailbox. The patrol says Bartels then pulled out onto the roadway, into the path of the semi.
