Three area volleyball players nab all-district honors

Three area volleyball players earned all-district recent recognition from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Newton senior Megan Pressgrove landed on the Class 4A Southeast District squad, Colfax-Mingo junior Ries Wilson was a 2A Central District selection and Lynnville-Sully senior Brenna Lanser earned a spot on the 1A South Central District team.

All three area players made strong cases for all-state honors. Each of them ranked in the top 10 of at least one statistical category in their class.

Pressgrove was a 6-foot setter and outside hitter for Newton. She led the team with 325 kills, which ranked 20th in 4A. However, her 4.85 kills per set ranked in a tie for second in 4A.

The future Clarke University Crusader went 218-of-227 at the service line with 15 aces. Her serving efficiency was 96 percent.

Pressgrove led the Cardinals with 38 blocks. She also had 176 digs and 223 assists for the season.

Wilson and Lanser were two of the best all-around players in the South Iowa Cedar League.

Wilson ranked second in the conference and eighth in 2A with 418 kills while also collecting 254 digs. She finished with 26 blocks, 35 aces and was 218-of-250 in serves overall.

Wilson’s 5.10 kills per set ranked first in all of Class 2A.

Lanser finished second in the SICL and 14th in 1A in digs with 387. Lanser also ranked in the top 10 in 1A in digs per set at 6.34.

She added 195 kills, 17 blocks and 48 aces. She was 299-of-326 in serves this season.
