Christopher J. Illingworth

Christopher “Chris” J. Illingworth, 54, of Newton, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Wallace Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Chris’ name may be left at the funeral home.

Chris, the son of Fred and Mary Lou (Land) Illingworth, was born Jan. 9, 1962, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1980. Chris worked for 25 years as a supervisor at the Maytag Company. He loved music and enjoyed playing guitar. He also was a talented baker and was known for his apple pies. Chris was a lifelong collector of antiques and enjoyed problem solving; looking for solutions to everyday problems.

Chris is survived by his children, C. Tanner (Danielle) Illingworth of Des Moines and Mackenzie Illingworth of Newton; grandchildren, Ethan Illingworth, Ivy Skokan and a granddaughter on the way; his parents, Fred and Mary Lou Illingworth of Russell; and two siblings, Scott Illingworth of Russell and Joni (Wes) Yeoman of Russell. He is also survived by the cat he loved, Bynx. Chris is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
