Sarah Jo Stinnett was born in Coalmont, Tenn., May 27, 1935. The family moved to Palmer, Tenn., shortly after her birth and remained there until moving to Detroit, Mich., when she was seven years old. Sarah Jo graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit, in 1953. She later moved to Newton, where her four children were born. Sarah Jo lived in Newton until moving to Pleasant Hill in 2013, where she remained until her death Friday, Nov. 18, 2016.

Left to honor Sarah Jo’s memory are her children, Dan (Nancy) Kingery of Newton, Brian (Julie) Kingery of Pella, Aimee Kingery of Pleasant Hill and Annie (Mike) Urias of Newton; and her seven grandchildren, Grace, Brett, Lauren, Andrew, Chase, Sarah and Anna.

A casual celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 Eighth St. SW in Altoona. Family and friends are invited to gather at 1 p.m. to share memories.

It was Sarah Jo’s wishes that her body be deeded to University of Iowa Hospitals to advance medical research. A private family burial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Bethany Christian Services, 617 Franklin Street #201, Pella, IA 50219 to support families seeking adoption.
