Tigerhawks can’t hold halftime lead in loss to Blue Devils

MARTENSDALE — The Colfax-Mingo girls basketball team couldn’t hold a halftime lead on the road in their season opener against Martensdale-St. Marys.

The Tigerhawks led 21-15 at the break but was outscored 29-16 in the final two quarters. The Blue Devils led 32-31 after three quarters and then pulled away in the fourth for a 44-37 victory.

Senior Dakota Hostetter scored nine points, grabbed 13 rebounds, had five steals and dished out five assists in the loss, while junior McKeely Tjaden scored a team-high 11 points.

Senior Amy Russell chipped in six points, and sophomore Mackensie Brown tallied five points.

The Tigerhawks were 5-for-12 from the free throw line. Tjaden was 4-for-4.

Colfax-Mingo does not play again until it travels to North Mahaska for a girl-boy South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader at 6 p.m. on Nov. 29.
