Newton High School senior Joe Malsom has been selected to participate in the 2016 Iowa All-State Honor Choir. Joe will travel to Ames, Friday, November 18, for two days of rehearsals with the 600-member choir. The choir, conducted by Dr. Jonathan Reed of Michigan State University, will join an all-state band and an all-state orchestra in a Nov. 18 live performance at Hilton Colosseum in Ames. The concert will be taped and broadcast on Iowa Public Television on Thanksgiving. Malsom was chosen from the thousands of students across the state auditioned for membership in the choir, band or orchestra on Oct. 22,. Participation in one of these ensembles is considered one of the most prestigious honors attainable by high school musicians in Iowa.
