Jay Dean Shannon

Jay Dean Shannon, the son of Larry T. and Bernice L. (Lenox) Shannon, was born Jan. 23, 1966, in Alta. Jay lived in Missouri for 15 years prior to moving to Denver, Colo., where he worked in the landscaping industry.

Jay enjoyed sports. He was a Cubs fan. He enjoyed playing baseball and later softball. Jay umpired baseball games for many years. When not playing ball, Jay enjoyed watching baseball, football and basketball games.

Jay died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colo. He was 50 years old. Jay was preceded in death by his mother, Bernie; and a stepbrother, Micah Gunsaulus.

Those left to honor Jay’s memory include his son, Spencer; his father and stepmother, Larry and Karen Shannon of Newton; his brothers, Jerry R. Shannon of Mesa, Ariz., and Scott S. (Kingsley) Shannon of Alpharetta, Ga.; his half-sisters, Lori Liston of Denver, Colo., and Leni VanWyk of Newton; and his step-brother, Aaron (Cami) Gunsaulus of Newton.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time. Memorials may be made out to Larry Shannon, and will be designated to various children’s foundations.
