More than 20 extraordinary pumpkins are on display at the Newton Public Library this week for the third annual Pumpkin Contest.

Each pumpkin is decorated as a fictional book character, and the artists behind the work are hoping to get votes.

Children and adults entered the contest this Halloween season and their inspiration came from their favorite fictional book character.

Phyllis Peter, Youth Services Librarian, said the annual contest has brought in 23 entries this year, tripling in size from previous years.

There is a children contest and an adult contest. There are 17 children entries and six adult entries.

“This is the chance for people to show their creativity,” Peter said.

Some of the entries include “E.T.”, “Three Billy Goats Gruff” and “The Pout-Pout Fish.”

Voting began Monday and ends Friday.

The two winners will receive a Halloween gift basket.

Go the Newton Public Library to vote for your favorite pumpkin.

The Newton Public Library is located at 100 N. Third Ave. W.
