Shirley Ann of Newton, passed Saturday morning, Oct. 22, 2016, at her home at Park Center in Newton.

Shirley Ann Viney, 86, was born Sept. 9, 1930, near Newton, the daughter of Kenneth and Irene (Zwank) Carnahan. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School.

Shirley had a connection with all who crossed her path. Her servant’s heart and genuine caring for others led to many friendships throughout the years. She was employed as a paralegal in secretarial for Cross Law offices, Hamill and Selby Law Offices, for 20 years at RRACAP and Drake Legal Clinic, was Reasnor City Clerk for seven years and secretary for two years at Peoples Bank in Indianola. Shirley was a loving mother and grandmother and she will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Shirley was a member of the Reasnor United Methodist Church.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Julie (Ronald) Cronk of Ankeny and their children, Diane, Cathy, Andrew, Tanner and Lynn; and her daughter, Jane (John) Abbey of Springfield, Mo., and their daughter, Jennifer; her sister, Patricia VanWyngarden of Reasnor; nephews, Craig and Kenton; and her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother-in-law, Ken VanWyngarden.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation an hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Hewitt Cemetery in rural Reasnor. Memorials may be left to the family in Shirley’s name or a charity of your choosing.
