• Downtown Christmas Holiday Open House Nov. 12-13 will feature an Elf on the Shelf contest this year. Plus enjoy live musicians on the square while you shop.

• Woodland Construction bought seven D&D lots from the city. They will build homes in the $100,000 range, on those lots.

• The City has contracted for the construction of utilities and road infrastructure in Cardinal Ridge, which will be underway soon.

• Newton Development Corporation honored Patriot Converting, LLC and Multi Packaging & Printing for their investments in Newton at the annual Salute to Business & Industry luncheon.

• Calling all Chilli Cookoff Bosses: Young Professionals of Jasper County will sponsor this event on Nov. 25 at the Lighted Christmas Parade downtown.

• Newton Main Street Downtown Trick or Treat will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 27.

• Fairmeadows North (Berg area) has a pending offer on the last available spec home built. That brings the total to seven new homes in that division.

• Iowa State University Landscape Architect students will present their concept drawings for utilization of the DMACC green space on Nov. 16 with possibly 30 different concepts.

• Greater Des Moines Partnership will meet with economic development officials in Newton on Nov. 3 to tour former Maytag buildings.

• Iowa Sculpture & Fine Arts Festival Nov. 5-6 will have an educational component, watch and learn how the artists have adapted techniques in their creative process.
