Tigerhawks win two, lose two at W-G tourney

WOODWARD — The Colfax-Mingo volleyball team got a good look at a potential playoff opponent Saturday during the Woodward-Granger tournament.

Unfortunately for the Tigerhawks, the host Hawks got the best of them during a 2-2 day. Colfax-Mingo was swept by Class 2A No. 9 Woodward-Granger 21-17, 21-12, swept by 5A Fort Dodge 21-18, 21-19, defeated East Union in straight sets 21-15, 21-12 and swept Panorama 21-10, 21-12.

In the loss to Fort Dodge (15-22), junior Ries Wilson had 12 kills and five digs, senior Amy Russell collected four kills, three digs and one ace and junior Megan Earles dished out 14 assists.

Wilson had eight kills in the loss to Woodward-Granger, while Earles added 10 assists and Russell chipped in six digs.

Wilson collected 12 kills in the win over East Union. She also had six digs and was 7-for-7 in serves with one ace. Russell finished with five kills, 10 digs and was 13-of-14 in serves with one ace.

Earles collected 17 assists, senior Dakota Hostetter chipped in six digs and sophomore Shaylee Shedenhelm served up two aces. The Tigerhawks were 40-41 with four aces from behind the service line.

In the win over Panorama, Wilson finished with 12 kills.

Russell had four kills, five aces and was 10-of-11 in serves. Shedenhelm was 7-of-7 in serves with two aces. Colfax-Mingo was 36-of-40 in serving with 10 aces.

The Tigerhawks (17-10) host Montezuma in the opening round of the 2A Region 4 tournament at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of that game travels to ninth-ranked Woodward-Granger (28-8) on Oct. 24.
