CMB takes momentum into regional tourney

BAXTER — Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s volleyball team got some much needed momentum heading into the postseason.

The Raiders swept Prairie City-Monroe on Tuesday and then finished their regular season with another Heart of Iowa Conference sweep, this time dispatching Saydel rather easily.

CMB improved to 13-11 overall and 3-5 in HOIC play with a 25-17, 25-9, 25-4 win over the Eagles on Senior Night.

Six seniors were recognized before the match. Setter Kathleen Baldwin inched closer to 1,000 careers assists as she dished out 12 and had three kills in the win.

Baldwin also was 16-of-17 with one ace from behind the service line.

Several other seniors contributed to the win. Micayla Applegate had two aces, Bekah Pearson collected two kills and seven digs, while Sydney Ziesman added four kills and five digs.

Megan Ritter finished with three digs, and Amanda Harrington had one kill, one dig and one ace.

Junior Brianda Bane continued to lead the Raiders at the net. She finished with nine kills. Junior Sailor Hinegardner controlled the back row with 11 digs. Hinegardner also was 17-for-17 in serves with two aces.

Jordynn Wesselink, a junior, served up two aces. The Raiders collected 13 aces in the victory. They were 67-of-74 in serves.

The Raiders open postseason play against Roland-Story at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Story City. CMB lost a 2-0 lead against the Norse back on Sept. 1. Roland-Story won the match in five sets.
