Tigerhawks lose to GMG in high-scoring affair

GARWIN — Colfax-Mingo’s Tigerhawks were eliminated from postseason play after not being able to hold a 40-30 halftime lead.

Colfax-Mingo led 16-14 after one quarter. GMG rallied to lead by four after three and then the Wolverines outscored the Tigerhawks 14-0 in the fourth to win 58-40 during Class A District 5 play here Friday night.

Colfax-Mingo fell to 1-6 on the season and 1-4 in district play.

GMG improved to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in district play. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Wolverines.

Junior Reegan Van Dyke threw for 276 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for Colfax-Mingo. He also had a rushing touchdown.

Sophomore Holister Koenig had the best game of his young varsity career, finishing with 173 total yards from scrimmage and one touchdown. He had 43 rushing yards and a TD on four carries and hauled in a career-high six catches for 130 yards. Defensively, Koenig finished with four tackles and one interception.

Senior Jimmy Camp rushed for two TDs on the night. He gained 50 yards on seven carries and grabbed two receptions for 31 yards. Camp had five tackles on defense.

Senior Adam Teed led the Tigerhawk defense with 10 tackles, and he added five catches for 53 yards and a touchdown on offense. Sophomore Ahren Teed recovered a fumble.

Junior Jarod Nichols hauled in a touchdown reception from Van Dyke, too. Nichols finished with nine catches for 78 yards and also had five tackles on defense.

The Tigerhawks played the game without two of their best players. Junior Jake Dunsbergen and sophomore Zarek Hill both missed the game because of injuries.

Colfax-Mingo hosts BGM (3-4, 3-2) at 7 p.m. Friday in Colfax.
