Newton Police Department

• Marcus W. Reeves, 18, of Newton, is charged with assault on persons in certain occupations after allegedly attempting to swing at a doctor and punch a police officer at 11 p.m. Sept. 23. Police responded to an assault call at Reeves’ home at 800 S. Second Ave. W. where they found Reeves unresponsive. When he was transported to Skiff Medical Center, he started swinging at the doctor. Reeves also stood up and attempted to throw at least two punches directed at an officer.

• Ashley M. Augustine, 34, of Indianola, is charged with fifth-degree theft at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday when Walmart employees found several items on her receipt didn’t match with items in her cart. The receipt showed a total of $3.06, and the items in her cart totaled $142.88.

• Melissa Sioux Yellow Elk, 26, of Newton, was arrested at 11:27 a.m. Oct. 5 for a probation violation in reference to a controlled substance violation.
