On Sept. 30 the Newton Police Department conducted a traffic safety enforcement project in the city of Newton. The primary objectives of this project were enforcement of excessive speed, seatbelt and other violations. The project lasted two hours and during the project officers conducted traffic stops on motorists for violations of the Iowa Traffic Code.
Officers issued 16 citations and warnings for violations of the Iowa Traffic Code. These violations included seatbelt violations, equipment violations, failure to secure a child, registration violations, no insurance and excessive speed.
Primary funding for the project was provided by the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
