PCM loses twice at R-S tourney

STORY CITY — The Prairie City-Monroe volleyball team can’t seem to get out of its current rut. The Mustangs dropped their eighth straight match Tuesday when it was swept by Class 4A No. 8 Nevada.

Before that loss, PCM lost twice at the Roland-Story tournament on Monday night.

The Mustangs (4-21) went three sets with both Madrid and BCLUW but came up short in both matches.

Madrid (4-9) defeated PCM 18-21, 26-24, 15-11. The Mustangs were led by sophomore Maddie Samson’s nine kills, senior Kayla Jennings’ 17 assists and senior Katie Vande Wall’s eight digs.

Jennings also was 16-for-16 in serves with four aces.

Samson collected two aces, and the Mustangs were 47-of-49 in serves.

Senior Tatum Nearmyer finished with seven kills and junior Olivia Lippman added six digs.

BCLUW (16-3) defeated the Mustangs for the second time this season, winning 21-12, 10-21, 15-7.

In the loss, Samson and senior Kaylee Townsend each had five kills and Jennings dished out 14 assists.

Lippman and sophomore Avery Stock totaled four digs and Samson and junior Regan Olson added three blocks.

Nevada defeated PCM 25-9, 25-10. 25-8 in Monroe on Tuesday night. Statistics were not available at press time.

It was the 44th straight Heart of Iowa Conference win for the Cubs.

The Mustangs play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at 3A No. 9 Gilbert.
