Opposed to sale of McCann Village

I recently found out about the proposed sale of McCann Village to an outside corporation, Wishrock. I no longer live in Newton but I visit often and I am always concerned about events happening in Newton.

I know many of the residents that live in this wonderful community.

I was alarmed to hear about this proposed sale. McCann Village was founded as a nonprofit, affordable facility for seniors with low income and has always been run by a local board of directors.

So much of America has been sold off to the detriment of America.

Maytag Company in Newton is a perfect example of what happens when an outside corporation takes over and the emphasis changes from what’s best for the people to what’s best for the stockholders and then the ultimate greed of the company and those who run it into the ground.

We all know what has happened in Newton with the loss of Maytag.

I would hate to see something like this happen to McCann Village which is a godsend for many seniors.

I urge all those involved with this proposed sale to carefully consider any and all negative consequences that could arise from this sale. All too often empty promises are all that are left when the dust settles and yet another American corporation is bankrupt.

I wish McCann Village wise counsel, prayer and discernment as it considers future direction for McCann Village.
