Newton Public Library sign up month concludes next week

Library Card Sign-Up Month

Help us celebrate Library Card Sign-up month. Teens and adults are invited to visit the library during the month of September for a chance to win a Kindle Fire. New library patrons will earn an entry into our Kindle prize drawing when they register for a library card. Existing cardholders earn a drawing entry for every five books they check out, all month long. Children who register for a new library card will be entered into a drawing for a subscription to National Geographic Kids magazine.

LEGOs at the Library

1 to 3 p.m. Monday — Kids in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to a Lego afternoon in the Library meeting room. LEGOs will be provided by the Library, please don’t bring your own. Children ages 10 and under should bring a parent or adult guardian along with them. For more information, contact Phyllis Peter at 641-792-4108.

Cookbook Club Potluck

Noon Wednesday — Explore a new cookbook each month. Visit the library information desk to select a recipe from the featured cookbook, then bring your culinary creation to the monthly potluck. This is a great opportunity to try new food while meeting new people. Call 641-792-4108.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Entries Accepted Oct. 14-21 — Decorate a pumpkin or gourd as your favorite book character. Pumpkins may be painted, dressed, or accessorized, but not carved. Entries will be accepted for Youth/Family and Adult categories, and should be dropped off at the library between Oct. 14 and 21. The public will vote for winners in both categories beginning Oct. 21. Winners will receive a Halloween treat basket. Call 641-792-4108.
