United Way makes an impact

The beginning of September brings my favorite time of year; cooler weather, football, pumpkin spice drinks and most importantly, the United Way of Jasper County Campaign.

In the four years I have been working in Jasper County, I have taken part in United Way of Jasper County Campaign through my workplace. It’s a fantastic, easy way for anyone to get involved and give back to this amazing community. Since I’ve moved to Newton a couple of years ago, I have also taken on a volunteer role and helped with the allocation of the funds that are raised by the campaign.

United Way of Jasper County supports more than two dozen health and human service programs annually from counseling services to children’s education and childcare programs; providing opportunities and skills for people with disabilities to providing support to local food banks. Being able to hear from the organizations and the people that the UWJC helps as part of the allocations process has restored a lot of my faith in humanity and has also shown me how important these funds are to making sure that our community remains healthy, strong and supportive. But this campaign can’t be successful without you.

The money raised in Jasper County stays in Jasper County to help those who live here – the students receiving the help through the education and childcare programs are the same kids I see at the sporting events; the same people who benefit from the food bank are the people I walk by at Maytag Park on a Saturday afternoon. People you see every day can benefit from organizations and services that receive funding from the United Way of Jasper County.

If you already give to the UWJC, thank you! If you haven’t given in the past, your chance to make an impact is here. Please join me in showing your support during the campaign by donating or volunteering!
